Who we help

The right return for your circumstances

Tax returns are rarely difficult because of the form itself. The risk is missing income, claiming the wrong cost, overlooking reliefs or discovering the liability too late to plan for it.

Limited companies

Corporation Tax returns prepared alongside your annual accounts, with the figures reconciled and the liability explained.

Sole traders and partnerships

Business accounts and Self Assessment returns completed from organised, reviewed records rather than rushed year-end totals.

Landlords and property owners

Rental income, finance costs, repairs, disposals and multiple-property records handled with the correct tax treatment.

Directors and shareholders

Salary, dividends, benefits, loans and other personal income brought together in one accurate return.

Capital gains and investments

Share disposals, investment income and asset sales reviewed so gains, losses and available reliefs are treated correctly.

Complex or overseas income

Multiple sources of income, foreign income and other non-standard circumstances dealt with by an experienced team.

Frequently asked questions

Tax return questions, answered clearly

Every return is different. These are the points clients most often ask about before getting started.

How do I know whether I need to complete a tax return?

You may need a return because of self-employment, property income, dividends, capital gains, foreign income, untaxed income or because HMRC has issued a notice to file. We can review your circumstances before work starts.

What information will Merranti need?

The exact list depends on the return. It can include bookkeeping records, bank statements, employment documents, dividend vouchers, rental statements, pension information, investment reports and details of asset disposals. We provide a tailored checklist.

Can I file early without paying the tax immediately?

Yes. Filing early normally gives you advance knowledge of the liability; it does not move the standard payment deadline forward. This can make cash-flow planning considerably easier.

What are payments on account?

Payments on account are advance instalments towards a future Self Assessment liability. Where they apply, they can make the January payment larger than expected. We show the calculation separately so you know what relates to the completed year and what is being paid in advance.

Can you deal with an overdue or incorrect return?

In many cases, yes. The correct action depends on the tax year, whether HMRC has issued a notice and whether a return has already been filed. Contact us promptly so the position can be reviewed before penalties or interest increase further.

Do you only work with clients near your offices?

No. Merranti has offices across the South East and can work with clients throughout the UK using secure digital records, online meetings and cloud accounting software.
